The 2026 Title Run
Peshawar Zalmi’s 2026 campaign was near-perfect. They topped the group stage with a net run-rate of +2.324, then produced the qualifier masterclass: 221/7 against Islamabad United (Babar 103 off 59, Haris 35 off 16, Mendis 41 off 26) and a 70-run win as United folded for 151. Five days later, the final at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore (3 May 2026): Hyderabad Kingsmen 129 all out (Saim Ayub 54; Hardie 4/27), Zalmi 130/5 in 15.2 overs (Hardie 56*; Mohammad Ali 3/38) — won by 5 wickets before 32,461 fans. The nine-year wait since the 2017 title was over; Zalmi are two-time champions.
Squad and Stars
Babar Azam (captain) — 588 runs in 2026 at 73.50 with two hundreds; the league’s most complete batter, reborn as a T20 aggressor. Kusal Mendis — 550 runs, the ideal foil. Mohammad Haris — powerplay mayhem. Sufiyan Muqeem — 22 wickets in 2026, the tournament’s leading spinner. Aaron Hardie — the Australian all-rounder who owned the playoffs (4/27 and 56* in the final). Abdul Samad, Iftikhar Ahmed, Michael Bracewell, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Basit — the depth that won a title. Coach: Daren Sammy, the two-time T20 World Cup-winning captain. Owner: Javed Afridi.
The Yellow Storm
No PSL brand is bigger than Zalmi’s. The yellow kits, the “Yellow Storm” (Zalmi means “youth” in Pashto) identity, the Peshawar anthem crowds — Zalmi turned a franchise into a movement. Their fan base travels: Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi all turn yellow when Zalmi play. The 2026 title — won with Babar’s batting, Sufiyan’s spin and Hardie’s all-round brilliance — was the validation of a decade of near-misses, including the 2019 final defeat that had haunted the franchise.
