The Old Draft System
From PSL 1 (2016) to PSL 10 (2025), teams built squads through a player draft: a fixed pick order across platinum, diamond, gold, silver and emerging rounds. It was orderly and predictable — and it kept squads balanced — but it lacked the drama and market dynamics of an auction.
The Auction Era (2026–)
PSL 11 introduced a player auction, held in January 2026 in Islamabad. With eight squads to fill, the auction created bidding wars for marquee names and gave the league a shot of commercial energy — part of the same expansion that added Hyderabad Kingsmen and Rawalpindi Pindiz. The PCB framed it as a milestone in the PSL’s first decade.
