ICC unveils U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2027 schedule; Pakistan drawn in Group B

The U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2027 will begin on January 21 in Bangladesh and Nepal, the International Cricket Council announced on Wednesday, unveiling the full schedule for the third edition of the tournament. Sixteen teams will contest 41 matches across four venues in the two host countries.

Pakistan have been drawn in Group B alongside South Africa, New Zealand and Samoa. The group stage runs until January 26, after which qualifying teams progress to the Super Six stage, split into two groups. The top two sides from each Super Six group advance to the semi-finals.

U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2027 groups and venues

The four groups are as follows. Group A: India, Ireland, West Indies and Nepal. Group B: South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan and Samoa. Group C: Australia, Bangladesh, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates. Group D: England, Sri Lanka, the United States and Scotland.

Matches will be played at the Bir Shrestha Shahid Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium in Chattogram, the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet, and the TU International Cricket Stadium and Upper Mulpani International Cricket Ground in Kathmandu.

The tournament opens with eight teams in action across four matches on January 21, including co-hosts Bangladesh taking on the UAE. Nepal begin their campaign against Ireland on January 22, while defending champions India face the West Indies in their opening fixture.

What Pakistan’s Group B draw means

Pakistan’s group offers a mixed test. South Africa and New Zealand bring strong youth structures, while Samoa represent the kind of emerging side Pakistan’s young players will be expected to beat. Finishing in the top two is the minimum target for a side aiming at the Super Six.

The semi-finals are scheduled for February 4 at the Chattogram stadium, with February 5 as the reserve day. The final takes place on February 6 at 1:30pm local time, with February 7 set aside as the reserve day.

Pakistan’s senior women’s side has been rebuilding, and a strong U19 campaign would feed that pipeline. The men’s game, meanwhile, is riding high after Pakistan climbed to fourth in the ICC ODI team rankings following the tri-series wins over Sri Lanka and England.

ICC chief hails platform for young talent

ICC chief executive Sanjog Gupta described the tournament as an important platform for showcasing the growing depth of talent in women’s cricket. “The ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup plays an important role in the development of women’s cricket, giving young players the opportunity to compete at the highest level in their age group and gain experience on the global stage,” he said.

Gupta added that bringing 16 teams together in Bangladesh and Nepal would give players from established and emerging cricketing nations the chance to develop through international competition. He also highlighted the tournament’s role in strengthening the global game and expanding cricket’s reach to new audiences.

India won the previous edition in Kuala Lumpur in February 2025, beating South Africa in the final, and return as defending champions. For Pakistan, the 2027 edition is a chance to measure its youth development against the world’s best on the subcontinent’s doorstep.
