The Count: 82 Missions
According to the current diplomatic list, 82 countries have resident embassies or high commissions in Islamabad — the figure excludes honorary consulates and non-resident missions accredited from capitals like Riyadh, Ankara and Tehran. About 18 are high commissions (Commonwealth members); the rest are embassies. Most sit in the Diplomatic Enclave, sector G-5 — see our Diplomatic Enclave guide for access rules.

Missions Outside the Enclave
Not every mission is inside the enclave walls. Several embassies operate from the F-6, F-7, F-8 and F-10 residential sectors — for example, missions have listed addresses on Margalla Road (F-6/3, F-7/3), in F-8/1 and F-8/4, and on streets in F-10. Always check the mission’s official website for its current address before visiting; locations change.
Consulates in Other Cities
Many countries also keep consulates beyond the capital: Karachi hosts the most (including US, Chinese, Saudi, Turkish, Russian and British consular presence), while Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta host missions of neighbours such as Afghanistan, Iran and China. For visa and citizen services, the nearest consulate is often faster than the Islamabad embassy — learn the difference in our embassy vs consulate guide.
