Punjab Public Transport Free: Maryam Nawaz Announces Free Travel Across Cities

Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has announced free public transport across all major cities in the province, allowing citizens to travel without purchasing tickets.

Following the directive, passengers will not need to pay fares on the Orange Line train, Metro Bus service, Speedo buses, and Green electric buses. The move aims to provide immediate relief to the public amid rising inflation and increased fuel costs.

In addition, Maryam Nawaz announced support for farmers, stating that a subsidy of Rs100 per acre on one liter of diesel will be provided to reduce agricultural expenses.

She said that the government will not leave citizens alone during difficult times and urged people to use public transport instead of private vehicles to reduce financial burden.

The Chief Minister also highlighted that ongoing global tensions have triggered an economic crisis worldwide, which is affecting Pakistan as well. She assured that further relief measures will be introduced as conditions improve.

Referring to the federal government’s efforts, she said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has tried to ease public hardships by providing relief worth billions of rupees within a month despite tough economic conditions.

It is important to note that the federal government recently increased fuel prices significantly, with petrol rising by Rs137.24 and diesel by Rs184.49, adding to public expenses.
