Samsung introduced two new budget smartphones, the Galaxy M08 and Galaxy F08, on October 1. Both phones centre on three selling points: a large 6,000mAh battery, a 50MP main camera and unusually long software support for the price segment.
Design and display
The M08 and F08 share a 6.7-inch HD+ PLS LCD with a 720 x 1600 resolution. Both measure 167.4 x 77.4 x 8.0mm and weigh 197g.
An IP64 rating covers dust and water splashes, a rarity at this end of the market. A side-mounted fingerprint scanner handles biometric security.
Performance and software
A MediaTek Helio G99+ octa-core chip powers both phones, clocked at up to 2.2GHz. Memory stands at 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage, expandable to 2TB via microSD.
The phones run Android 17. Samsung promises six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates, which is generous for budget hardware. Circle to Search, Quick Share, Knox Vault and SmartThings support are included.
Connectivity covers 4G LTE, dual SIM, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS and USB Type-C. A 3.5mm headphone jack survives.
Cameras and battery
The rear setup pairs a 50MP main camera with autofocus and 10x digital zoom against a 2MP secondary sensor. Video tops out at 1080p at 30fps. An 8MP front camera handles selfies.
The 6,000mAh battery supports 25W wired charging, though Samsung does not include a charger in the box.
