Maj Shahid Bashir Shaheed: Kohlu Ambush Martyr

Two little girls are growing up with a story no child should have to carry — and no child of a hero should ever be without.

On 22 April 2022, Major Shahid Bashir Shaheed of the Pakistan Army embraced shahadat in an ambush laid by terrorists at Kohlu, Balochistan. He was an officer of the 125 Long Course, serving with the 22 Azad Kashmir Regiment and the Frontier Corps Balochistan. He had also served as Adjutant of Cadet College Larkana — the officer the boys watched most closely, the standard against which they measured themselves.

By every account that matters, he was two things at once: a warrior trusted with one of the hardest postings in the country, and a mentor trusted with the Army’s youngest. That he held the Adjutant’s post says as much about him as any battlefield honour could.

Ambushed at Kohlu

Kohlu sits in the heart of the terrain where Pakistan’s counter-terrorism fight has been longest and hardest. The Frontier Corps Balochistan holds that ground day after day, year after year — manning posts, running patrols, absorbing the blows of an enemy that fights from the shadows. It is unglamorous, grinding, dangerous work, and the province’s fragile peace depends on it.

Ambushes are among the cruellest forms of warfare: they strike without warning, at a moment of the enemy’s choosing, against men who cannot see the blow coming. But the record of that day is also a record of an officer who faced it as soldiers do — standing his ground in the line of duty until the very end.

The Original Tribute

The tribute shared on the fourth anniversary of his shahadat reads:

Today is 4th shahadat anniversary of Maj Shahid Bashir Shaheed. On 22 Apr 2022, He embraced shahadat in an ambush by terrorists at Kohlu Balochistan. He left a widow and two little daughters. Pride of Nation. Pride of 125L/C ex 22AK/FC Bln. Adjt Cadet College Larkana. Thankyou Heroes. You gave your everything for this nation. We’ll never forget you Heroes.

A Widow, Two Little Daughters

He left behind a widow and two little daughters — children too young to fully understand the price their father paid, but old enough one day to know that he was a hero. That is the quiet, devastating arithmetic of every shaheed’s home: a nation’s debt written in a family’s loss.

Every year on 22 April, his shahadat anniversary is observed — the fourth in 2026. Course-mates, comrades, and the community he served keep his name alive. And somewhere, two little girls are growing up with a story about their father that most children never have to carry: that he gave everything for Pakistan, and that the country he served will never stop being grateful.

The Mentor Behind the Warrior

When nations remember their martyrs, they reach first for the battlefield stories. But Major Shahid Bashir’s story asks us to remember something else as well: the officers who build the Army between the battles. As Adjutant of Cadet College Larkana, he was one of the men who take in boys and return soldiers — who teach discipline, instil courage, and set the example a cadet will carry into his first posting and, if fate demands it, into his last fight.

Consider what that means. The cadets he shaped at Larkana are serving today across Pakistan — from the deserts of Sindh to the mountains of the north. Every lesson he drilled into them — about standing your ground, about leading from the front, about what the uniform demands — is still being acted out, years after his shahadat, by men who learned it from him. That is a form of immortality no ambush can take away.

And there is the deeper truth every shahadat anniversary forces the nation to confront: the price of peace is not paid by governments or institutions, but by families. A widow in mourning, two daughters growing up without their father — this is what the war against terrorism has cost, multiplied across thousands of homes. To remember Major Shahid Bashir is to remember them too, and to accept that the nation’s debt to them can never truly be repaid.

We salute Major Shahid Bashir Shaheed. Thank you, hero — you gave your everything for this nation, and this nation will never forget you. His daughters will grow up knowing their father was one of Pakistan’s bravest.
