Apple Launches HomePod Mini 2 With Siri AI and Sound Glow
Apple has introduced the HomePod Mini 2, its second-generation smart speaker, alongside a new HomeView smart home hub, an upgraded Apple TV 4K and an Apple Home Collection.
The HomePod Mini 2 adds Siri AI, a new Sound Glow visual feature, support for pairing up to four speakers together, and fresh colour options. It is powered by Apple’s S10 chip, which drives the new on-device intelligence features.
S10 chip brings Siri AI
The S10 chip enables the speaker’s new Siri AI capabilities. However, the smarter assistant needs an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone or iPad paired with the speaker to work.
Apple says Siri AI will eventually recognise up to six different users by voice and serve each person personalised information and messages. Those personalised features will not be ready at launch. Apple plans to switch them on through a future software update.
Sound Glow turns the top into a display
Apple has also introduced Sound Glow. The feature turns the top surface of the HomePod Mini 2 into a digital visual display that glows and animates while music plays.
The lighting effects pick up colours from the currently playing song’s album artwork, so each track gets its own visual treatment. The result is that no two tracks look quite the same on the speaker’s glowing top.
Four speakers, one room
The HomePod Mini 2 expands Apple’s multi-speaker setup. Users can pair up to four HomePod mini speakers to build a four-speaker surround system with the new Apple TV 4K.
The speaker can also act as a smart home hub, letting users control compatible connected home devices. It comes in five colours: Blue, Green, Pink, Midnight and White.
HomePod Mini 2: price and availability
The HomePod Mini 2 is priced at $149 in the United States. Pre-orders are already open through the Apple Store in the US and 23 other regions.
Pakistani buyers will have to wait for grey-market importers, as Apple has no official retail presence in the country, which usually pushes local prices well above the US tag. The launch follows a busy season for Apple hardware watchers, from iPhone speaker complaints to the latest app redesigns on iOS. Social platforms are changing too, with Facebook now letting users reshape feeds with plain-text prompts.
