Nine years ago, on 13 October 2017, the Pakistan Army lost one of its dedicated officers. Major Shahnawaz Shaheed — 89 Long Course, formerly of the Army Service Corps — embraced martyrdom in the line of duty, joining the proud and solemn ranks of the nation’s shuhada.
The Army Service Corps is the lifeline that keeps the fighting machine moving — the fuel, the rations, the ammunition, the supplies that reach the remotest posts. Officers like Major Shahnawaz carried a responsibility that was less visible than the infantry’s but no less vital. Behind every successful operation stands the logistician who made it possible.
Major Shahnawaz served with the professionalism and dedication that the 89 Long Course is known for. His photograph — the name tape “SHAHNAWAZ” above “PAK ARMY” — captures a soldier in his prime: steady-eyed, resolute, proud of the uniform he wore. It is the face of a man who understood that service is its own reward.
His martyrdom is a reminder that danger does not distinguish between arms and services. In the Pakistan Army’s long campaign, officers and men of every corps have stood shoulder to shoulder, and the ASC has given its share of martyrs to the nation’s cause.
On this 9th shahadat anniversary, we salute Major Shahnawaz Shaheed — a soldier’s soldier, a logistician who kept the Army moving, a son of Pakistan who gave everything. His family carries a grief that time softens but never erases, and the nation stands with them. We will remember him, always.
May Allah bless his soul and grant patience to his family. Major Shahnawaz Shaheed — 89 Long Course, Army Service Corps, son of Pakistan — we remember you, we honour you, and we will never forget you.
