Deleted photos sit in a trash folder for weeks before disappearing forever. Act fast and check these spots in order. You have 30 to 60 days to get them back, depending on the app.
Check the Trash Folder First
On iPhone, deleted photos land in Recently Deleted. Open Photos, tap Albums, and scroll to Recently Deleted. Unlock it with Face ID or your passcode, select the photos, and tap Recover.
Photos stay there for 30 days. After that, they vanish permanently. As a result, the sooner you check, the better your odds.
On Android, open Google Photos and tap Collections, then Trash. Backed-up photos stay for 60 days. Photos that were never backed up stay for 30 days.
Samsung phones have their own recycle bin. Open Gallery, tap the menu, and open Recycle Bin. Photos wait there for 30 days before permanent deletion.
Touch and hold the photos you want, then tap Restore. They return to the albums they came from. In addition, check Files by Google or My Files, which keep separate trash folders.
Look in Your Cloud Backups
The trash may be empty, but the cloud may still hold your photos. Log into iCloud.com and open Photos, or open photos.google.com. Deleted-from-phone photos often survive there.
For example, a photo deleted from your phone gallery may still sit in Google Photos online. This happens when the deletion did not sync everywhere. Search the cloud library before giving up.
Check every backup service you use. OneDrive, Dropbox, and Samsung Cloud may hold copies too. Meanwhile, look through messaging apps where you shared the photo.
WhatsApp, Telegram, and email threads keep sent photos. Open the chat where you shared the picture and save it again. This rescue route surprises many people.
Last Resorts and Prevention
If everything above failed, recovery software is the last option. On Android, PC tools can scan the phone’s storage for deleted files. Connect the phone in file-transfer mode and run the scan.
However, recovery only works if new data has not overwritten the old photos. Stop using the phone heavily right away. The less you write, the better the odds.
Now prevent this forever. Turn on Google Photos backup or iCloud Photos today. Keep a second copy of important photos on a computer or external drive.
Finally, double-check before emptying any trash folder. Indeed, that 30 to 60 day window exists precisely to fix mistakes like this one.
