Four Islamabad police officers arrested for armed robbery at Chinese nationals’ home

ISLAMABAD: Four Islamabad police officers have been arrested for allegedly carrying out an armed robbery at the home of two Chinese nationals in the capital’s F-7/1 sector, police said.

The Islamabad police officers arrested in the case were wearing police uniforms and carried out the robbery with an accomplice, according to a police officer. They allegedly stole Rs2 million in cash and a mobile phone worth Rs15,000. Police have registered a case under Section 395 (dacoity) of the Pakistan Penal Code and initiated legal proceedings against the arrested officers, ProPakistani reported.

Islamabad police officers arrested: how the robbery unfolded

According to the First Information Report, the incident occurred at around 2:20am. A man wearing a police uniform entered the property and approached the servants’ quarters. He woke a security guard assigned to the day shift and a driver who were sleeping there, and took them outside to a black Toyota Corolla fitted with a revolving police light.

Four armed men, including three in police uniforms, were sitting inside the vehicle. The suspects then took the guard and driver back onto the property along with the car. The armed men entered the house through a window, held the two Chinese nationals at gunpoint, and confined them and two servants to the drawing room before stealing the cash.

One of the security guards suspected that another guard had helped the robbers enter the property by opening the gate. Police later identified the suspects through CCTV footage and arrested the four officers.

Fourth such case since August

The incident marks the fourth home robbery targeting Chinese nationals in Islamabad since August 29. In three of these cases, the robbers disguised themselves as officials. Investigations into two of the incidents identified serving Islamabad police personnel as suspects.

Last month, three serving Islamabad police officers were found to be part of a robbery gang operating with other accomplices. Their involvement came to light during an investigation into a September 13 robbery in G-10/4, where armed men dressed in police uniforms raided the home of two Chinese nationals and stole Rs8 million.

The pattern raises uncomfortable questions about the force meant to protect the capital’s residents, including the many Chinese nationals working and investing in Pakistan. Islamabad police recently reduced the city’s security checkposts from 24 to 12 on busy roads, a move presented as easing public movement. Cases like this one, alongside major robbery cases in Karachi, point to street crime and insider involvement as persistent challenges for law enforcement. The capital’s police have also been in the spotlight for the NCCIA’s nationwide cybercrime crackdown, which netted over 1,100 arrests.
