Araghchi Rules Out Military Solution, Says Only Diplomacy Can End Iran-US War
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that no military or sanctions-based solution can end the war between Iran and the United States, insisting that only a diplomatic solution can stop what he called the aggression against his country.
Speaking to ambassadors and representatives of countries and international organisations in Tehran, Araghchi said: “There is no military or sanctions-based solution. Only a diplomatic solution can work and can help bring an end to the aggression against Iran.”
He expressed hope that Washington would choose “wisdom and rationality”, while warning that Iran was more prepared than before if the US opted for a military course. Iran’s response to any renewed aggression would be stronger than before, he said.
Araghchi diplomatic solution push includes seven-day Hormuz plan
Araghchi said Iran’s delegation used the 81st session of the UN General Assembly to present a seven-day proposal for resolving disputes and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Under the plan, the strait would reopen within seven days of an agreement.
He said Tehran remained ready for a diplomatic settlement while staying committed to defending itself. Iran has since received Washington’s official response to the proposal through diplomatic channels, though its contents have not been made public.
The foreign minister also rejected reports in US media that Iran’s delegation had been expelled from the United States, calling the claim “childish and vulgar”. He compared it to an Olympic host expelling another country’s athletes after losing to them.
Tehran draws a line on pressure tactics
Araghchi said renewed contacts with Persian Gulf states had been “effective, respectful and friendly”, and that a new path towards “trust, peace, stability and security” had begun.
He argued that neither fresh sanctions nor military threats would produce results. “There is no military solution and no solution based on more sanctions,” he said, adding that only negotiations based on “justice, fairness and diplomatic dignity” could end the conflict.
US President Donald Trump has said the war would end “very quickly” and predicted oil prices would fall sharply once it was over. He portrayed Iran as facing severe military and economic pressure and said Tehran faced a choice over how the conflict would end.
