Mobile and Internet Services Suspended in Azad Kashmir

ISLAMABAD: The government has suspended mobile phone and internet services across Azad Kashmir ahead of a planned protest and long march scheduled for June 9.

Authorities issued directives to shut down communication services from today. According to official instructions, the suspension will remain in effect until June 12. Meanwhile, officials have also advised travelers to avoid visiting Azad Kashmir until June 20 due to the evolving security situation.

The decision came after the Joint Awami Action Committee announced a strike and long march despite ongoing discussions with government representatives. Officials believe the move will help maintain public order and prevent any disruption during the protest period.

At the same time, security preparations have intensified across Azad Kashmir. Authorities decided to deploy more than 1,500 police officers and personnel from Islamabad to support local law enforcement agencies.

Government spokesperson Shaukat Javed Mir said authorities would not allow anyone to violate the law. He added that the administration had already accepted 35 of the committee’s 38 demands. Therefore, he argued that continuing with the protest does not serve the public interest.

Meanwhile, the situation in Azad Kashmir took another significant turn after authorities declared the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee a banned organization.

The Home Department of the government issued an official notification under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2014. The notification stated that the organization had been placed on the First Schedule after the authorities reviewed evidence of its activities.

According to officials, the group allegedly engaged in actions that threatened peace and public security. Authorities also claimed that the organization contributed to unrest and instability in different parts of Azad Kashmir.

Furthermore, the notification accused the group of creating fear among citizens and promoting an atmosphere of insecurity. Officials stated that such activities could negatively affect social harmony and public confidence.

The government emphasized that all legal measures against the banned organization would proceed under existing laws. Meanwhile, security agencies continue to monitor developments closely throughout Azad Kashmir.

As tensions remain high, residents, businesses, and travelers in Azad Kashmir are expected to face communication disruptions and increased security measures over the coming days.
