Capt Hafiz Kashan Ali Naveed Shaheed: LOC Hero

He fought the enemy twice: once on the ridge, and once in a hospital bed in Kharian. The first fight made him a hero. The second, he fought to the very end.

Captain Hafiz Kashan Ali Naveed Shaheed of the Pakistan Army — 131 Long Course, 28 Sindh Regiment — was injured during a fire encounter with the Indian Army on the Line of Control. He was evacuated to the Combined Military Hospital in Kharian. And there, on 8 August 2020, despite every effort, he embraced martyrdom.

Some martyrdoms are instant. His was a battle twice over — first against the enemy’s fire, then against his wounds. The Army’s medical corps fought alongside him to the end.

The Commended Warrior

He was no stranger to danger. Captain Kashan Ali Naveed was a veteran of the war against terrorism, and he had been awarded the Army Chief Commendation Card for his services during counter-terrorism operations in the erstwhile FATA.

The Commendation Card is not handed out lightly. It marks an officer whose services were deemed worthy of the Chief’s personal recognition — a distinction earned in the hard years of the counter-terrorism fight, where he had already proven himself, again and again, before he ever faced the LOC.

There is a pattern in the careers of Pakistan’s finest young officers: tested first in the counter-terrorism fight, then carrying that seasoning to every harder posting that follows. The operations in the erstwhile FATA made him. The LOC claimed him. Both chapters are the same story: a soldier who went where the danger was.

Wounded on the Line of Control

The LOC is a place where the ceasefire is a technicality and courage is a daily requirement. The fire encounters there are not ambushes by hidden militants but exchanges with a uniformed adversary — artillery, small arms, snipers, in terrain where every ridge is contested. To stand on that line is to accept that the next burst could come at any moment.

Captain Kashan Ali Naveed stood there as a veteran. He fell there as a hero.

The Original Tribute

The tribute shared on the sixth anniversary of his shahadat reads:

Tomorrow is 6th shahadat anniversary of Captain Hafiz Kashan Ali Naveed Shaheed, 131L/C ex 28SR. He got injured during fire encounter with Indian Army on LOC and embraced martyrdom in CMH Kharian on 08 Aug 2020. He was veteran of war against terrorism & recipient of “Army Chief Commendation Card” for his services during counter terrorism operations in erstwhile FATA. Nation will never forget you Sir!!

Six Years of Honour

Every year on 8 August, his shahadat anniversary is observed — the sixth in 2026. The men he served with remember an officer who had already proven himself in the war against terrorism and then stood his ground on the LOC without hesitation.

Six years on, the significance of his story has only grown clearer. He represents the generation of officers who fought Pakistan’s longest war — the war against terrorism — and then held the line against the conventional threat as well. Few soldiers are tested in both kinds of warfare. Fewer still distinguish themselves in both. The Commendation Card says he did the first. The LOC says he did the second — at the cost of his life.

We salute Captain Hafiz Kashan Ali Naveed Shaheed. A commended warrior. A brave son of the 28 Sindh. A hero of the counter-terrorism fight and the Line of Control alike.

He represents something rare in any army: an officer proven in the war against terrorism, and proven again on the conventional line. Both fights demanded everything. He gave everything — twice.

The nation will never forget you, Sir.
