Jofra Archer Rested as England Name 16-Member Squad for ODI Tri-Series in Pakistan

The England and Wales Cricket Board on Thursday announced a 16-member squad for the ODI tri-series against hosts Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with right-arm speedster Jofra Archer the notable absentee alongside the injured Jos Buttler. The England ODI tri-series squad was unveiled by selector Marcus North, who insisted Archer had been rested purely to manage his workload after a busy summer.

“The tri-series in Pakistan provides another valuable opportunity for our ODI squad to test themselves against quality opposition in different conditions,” North said. “Adil Rashid and Sam Curran return to the squad following their respective injuries while Jofra Archer has been rested to manage his workload following a busy summer.”

Inside the England ODI tri-series squad

Archer was part of the England side that secured a 2-1 ODI series win over Sri Lanka at home last month. But the right-arm pacer struggled during that assignment, taking one wicket at a poor average of 121. Buttler, the former captain, misses the tour with a hamstring injury sustained during the second ODI against Sri Lanka at Headingley.

England will be boosted by the return of leg-spinner Adil Rashid and all-rounder Sam Curran after recovering from hand and groin injuries respectively. In another change, Glamorgan leg-spinner Mason Crane earned a maiden ODI call-up, eight years after his solitary Test appearance against Australia in the 2018 Ashes.

The selectors also retained two emerging players: 22-year-old all-rounder James Coles and 21-year-old pacer Henry Crocombe. Harry Brook captains the side.

World Cup 2027 preparations begin in Rawalpindi
