Islamabad: Public transport terminals in Islamabad and Rawalpindi are expected to remain closed for up to ten days following fresh security directives issued by authorities, as both cities move to high alert.
According to sources, the restrictions may stay in place until April 26. Although an official notification is still awaited, officials indicated that the decision could be finalized within the next 24 hours.
The development follows a high-level meeting attended by district administration officials, traffic police, Regional Transport Authority representatives, and transport union leaders. During the session, participants reviewed the prevailing security situation and discussed necessary precautionary measures.
More than 100 bus terminal owners and union representatives took part in the consultation. Reports suggest that there was a general agreement on temporarily suspending operations in order to manage potential security risks.
Transport union officials stated that the proposed closure is purely a precautionary step. They emphasized that the move aims to ensure public safety and maintain compliance with directives issued by local authorities.
Officials further indicated that smaller bus stands across Rawalpindi could also face shutdowns if the security situation worsens. In addition, inter-city buses and coaches may be restricted from entering Rawalpindi depending on how conditions evolve.
Union representatives have already begun informing transport operators about the expected suspension and have urged the public to cooperate with authorities during this period.
Police sources confirmed that both Islamabad and Rawalpindi have been placed on high alert ahead of the expected arrival of foreign delegations. Security measures have been intensified across key locations to ensure smooth management of the situation.
Authorities continue to monitor developments closely, and further updates are expected once a formal announcement is issued.
