Mercantile Launches iPhone Duo in Pakistan on Global Launch Day

KARACHI: Pakistani buyers no longer have to wait weeks to learn what a new iPhone costs or when it will arrive. Mercantile Pakistan, Apple’s authorised distributor in the country, has announced the local launch of the iPhone Duo on the same day the foldable reaches customers worldwide.

The Duo is Apple’s first foldable iPhone. It was announced on September 9, with pre-orders opening on October 16 and shipping from October 23. Mercantile confirmed limited local stock availability from day one.

Apple’s first foldable: the key specs

The Duo opens into a 7.6-inch inner display, the largest ever on an iPhone, with a 5.4-inch outer screen for everyday use. The wider layout suits video better than earlier vertical-style foldables. The inner screen uses an under-display camera, and both screens support Apple Pencil.

Other headline specifications:

  • Chip: A20 Pro, the same chip as the iPhone 18 Pro models, with Apple’s C2 modem. The phone is eSIM-only.
  • Cameras: two 48MP cameras — a main and an ultrawide with 2x optical zoom. There is no telephoto lens.
  • Design: 5.2mm thick when open, the thinnest iPhone so far, and 11.3mm when folded. It weighs 254 grams. The hinge uses grade 5 aluminium, and a nanotexture finish reduces the visible crease.
  • Battery: Apple claims up to 44 hours of video playback on the outer display.
  • Security: Touch ID in the side button, with no Face ID. The phone can also be unlocked with an Apple Watch.

PTA approval and a one-year official warranty

Every unit sold through the official channel is PTA approved and comes with a one-year official Apple warranty. That matters more on a first-generation foldable, where a working hinge and access to authorised service are genuine concerns for buyers.

Nauman Durrani, CEO Pakistan and SVP SAGE for Mercantile, said: “This milestone reflects our commitment to ensuring that customers in Pakistan experience the very best of Apple at the same time as the rest of the world. We remain focused on bringing the latest Apple innovations to our customers, without compromise.”

Mercantile is not new to launching at speed. It introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in Pakistan on day one, close to their worldwide launch. The Duo carries that approach to a far more expensive device.

Why the official channel matters here

For Pakistani buyers, the significance goes beyond timing. High-end iPhones have long flowed through grey-market channels, where prices fluctuate and warranty support is uncertain. An authorised launch with PTA approval removes the registration risk, and the one-year Apple warranty is particularly relevant for a first-generation foldable — hinge mechanisms are the most failure-prone part of any folding phone, and authorised repair is the difference between a fix and a write-off.

Apple had already signalled tight supply, with limited walk-in units for the launch and online stock selling out within minutes in some markets. Mercantile’s announcement of limited local stock follows the same pattern.

Two launches in a row with official pricing and PTA-approved stock from the start suggest Pakistan is now being served alongside the global rollout rather than after it. For buyers, that means an authorised channel exists even for Apple’s most expensive new phone — a notable shift in a market where premium launches used to arrive late and unofficially. It also continues a busy season for Pakistan’s handset market, which recently saw Samsung’s Galaxy M08 and F08 launch and a PTA move to scrap the one-year telecom review limit.
