Pakistan took the opening set 25-19 in 23 minutes, setting the tone for the evening. India pushed harder in the second set, which ran to 34 minutes, but Pakistan held their nerve in the tight exchanges to win it 25-23 and move one set from victory. The third set was one-sided, Pakistan closing it 25-18 in 25 minutes.
Murad leads the scoring charts
Opposite Murad Khan was Pakistan’s standout performer, scoring 19 points including 18 successful spikes. Ali Usman Faryad contributed 13 points and Mohammad Hammad added nine.
Pakistan dominated the attacking statistics, recording 75 attack points to India’s 60, and edged the blocking battle 5-4. India had the better of the service points and forced 20 Pakistani errors, one more than Pakistan forced in return.
Pakistan’s road to the last four
Pakistan opened their campaign with a 3-1 win over Kazakhstan, then beat Uzbekistan 3-0 to seal a quarter-final place with a match to spare. Their only defeat came in the final pool match, a 3-0 loss to hosts Japan, one of the favourites for gold alongside defending champions Iran.
