FAISALABAD: Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by nine wickets in the sixth match of the women’s Sri Lanka Pakistan U19 tri-series at Iqbal Stadium on Friday.
Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl. Pakistan managed only 110 for eight from their 20 overs, and Sri Lanka chased the target down in 15.2 overs for the loss of just one wicket. Wicketkeeper-batter Sanjana Kavindi anchored the chase with 48.
Pakistan’s batters never get going
Pakistan’s innings never recovered from a disciplined opening spell. The Sri Lankan bowlers kept the hosts tied down throughout, and wickets fell at regular intervals as Pakistan struggled to build partnerships.
The hosts finished on 110 for eight, a total that left them well short in a format where par scores at Iqbal Stadium have been considerably higher. Sri Lanka’s bowlers backed up their captain Chamudi Prabodha’s decision to field first with a controlled display.
Sri Lanka Pakistan U19 tri-series: a third straight win for Sri Lanka
The chase was a formality. Sri Lanka lost just one wicket on the way to 111, reaching the target with 28 balls to spare. Kavindi’s 48 led the way as the visitors made light work of the chase.
It was Sri Lanka’s third successive win in the series, after back-to-back victories over Bangladesh earlier in the week. The result also avenged their earlier defeat to Pakistan in the tournament, when the hosts chased down 125 to win by five wickets on October 3.
With the final scheduled for October 16, Sri Lanka have strengthened their claim on a place in the decider. Pakistan, led by Fizza Fiaz, still have two more group matches to secure their own path to the final.
