The NBP CEO salary package approved for Imran Sarwar will pay the National Bank of Pakistan president Rs9.5 million a month, or Rs114 million a year, plus benefits under a compensation package approved by the bank’s shareholders.

The listed bank disclosed the package in a regulatory filing at the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Friday. The terms cover the period from 2026 to 2029 and are subject to applicable taxes. Sarwar took office on September 9, after being appointed for a three-year term effective September 3, 2026.

NBP CEO salary: what the package includes

The headline figure is the monthly pay, but the benefits add substantially to the cost. The main components disclosed in the PSX filing:

Sarwar will also receive a variable annual performance bonus based on key performance indicators approved by shareholders and assessed by the board. The bank will cover utility bills and provide two residential telephone connections and two mobile phones.

NBP will arrange four security guards working 12-hour shifts at his residence and reimburse Rs150,000 per month for five domestic staff. The residential generator, costing up to Rs1.5 million, will be amortised over the contract period.

Two cars, medical cover and insurance

The package entitles Sarwar to two vehicles. One can have an engine capacity of up to 3,500cc, while the second will be selected from the bank’s existing vehicle pool. At the end of his contract, he can purchase the designated vehicle for 10 per cent of its original cost or written-down value, whichever is higher. Medical and dental coverage extends to his dependent family at actual cost, and the Rs30 million life insurance cover runs through the contract, with Sarwar and the bank each paying half the annual premium.

Leave, gratuity and club memberships

On leave, Sarwar gets 30 days of annual leave and 18 days of casual and sick leave each year. Annual leave can accumulate to 90 days and may be encashed at his last-drawn gross salary. The bank will pay gratuity equivalent to one month of his last-drawn gross salary for each year of service, and will cover the entry fees for two clubs plus subscription charges for three clubs.

The compensation package will remain fixed throughout the contract period. If NBP terminates his employment before the agreement expires, payment for the remaining term will be governed by the approved contract’s terms and conditions. If Sarwar resigns, he must take three months of gardening leave as part of his notice period.

Who is Imran Sarwar

Before joining NBP, Sarwar served as Group Executive for Risk and Credit Policy and Chief Risk Officer at United Bank Limited, one of Pakistan’s largest private banks. As the government’s own bank, NBP’s health reflects the wider public-sector banking system, and its chief executive’s pay inevitably invites public scrutiny. The disclosure itself is part of the transparency listed companies owe investors, the same discipline that shows up in the State Bank’s broader data on foreign exchange reserves.
