The Tournament
What the World Championship of Legends is
The WCL is a T20 league for retired greats — national “Champions” sides of former internationals, played in England.
Legends format
Teams are made up of recently retired international stars — Pakistan Champions, South Africa Champions, India Champions, Australia Champions, England Champions, West Indies Champions and more — playing proper T20 cricket.
English venues
Matches are staged at famous English grounds — Edgbaston in Birmingham hosted the 2025 final; Grace Road in Leicester hosted group games.
Real stakes
The 2025 winners took home $200,000, with $100,000 for the runners-up — and packed crowds for the big rivalries.

The Final
The WCL 2025 final: how South Africa won
2 August 2025, Edgbaston, Birmingham — a final decided by one of the great T20 innings.
Pakistan’s 195/5
Pakistan Champions, reaching the final after India’s semi-final walkover, were asked to bat first. Sharjeel Khan blazed 76 off 44 balls (9 fours, 4 sixes), with late impetus from Umar Amin (36* off 19) and Asif Ali (28). Hardus Viljoen and Wayne Parnell (2/32) kept the total to 195/5 — competitive, but not safe.
AB’s 120* — the chase
AB de Villiers produced a vintage masterclass: 120 not out off 60 balls, with 12 fours and 7 sixes, sharing a 145-run second-wicket stand with JP Duminy (50* off 28). South Africa cruised home at 197/1 in 16.5 overs — winning by 9 wickets with 19 balls to spare and lifting their maiden WCL title. De Villiers took Player of the Match, and Pakistan collected $100,000 as runners-up.
