Cousin Says Imran Khan’s Sisters on Hunger Strike for Two Days

ISLAMABAD: Three sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan — Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi — have been on hunger strike for the last 48 hours, according to his cousin Qasim Zaman, who reached Adiala Jail on Tuesday to meet the former prime minister but was not allowed to do so.

Zaman arrived at Adiala Jail on Tuesday seeking a meeting with Imran Khan, but jail authorities did not allow it. Interim PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and the PTI founder’s lawyers also reached the jail and were likewise denied a meeting with their client.

PTI lawyer Awais Younas Chaudhry told Dawn that the lawyers and a family member arrived at the jail at 2pm and waited until 4:30pm, but were not permitted inside to see Imran Khan.

Zaman alleged that the sisters began their hunger strike because of misbehaviour with them during their detention. Reports of a hunger strike had been circulating for some time, but this is the first confirmation from a member of the family.

Chaudhry criticised the jail administration’s stance. “It is tragic that the jail administration has been violating orders of the Islamabad High Court and Supreme Court of Pakistan but courts appear to be helpless,” he said.
