Cement sales rise 7.35% in September as domestic demand strengthens

Cement sales in September rose 7.35 per cent year-on-year, with domestic dispatches reaching 3.788 million tons in September 2026, while exports held almost steady at 832,173 tons, according to data released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association.

Total cement dispatches for the month increased 5.95 per cent to 4.621 million tons, up from 4.361 million tons a year earlier. The growth was driven mainly by stronger domestic demand.

Cement sales September 2026: north weakens, south surges

Region-wise data showed a sharp divide. North-based cement mills recorded total dispatches of 3.164 million tons in September, down 2.43 per cent from 3.242 million tons a year earlier. South-based mills, on the other hand, surged 30.23 per cent to 1.46 million tons.

Domestic dispatches by north-based mills increased 4.72 per cent to 3.164 million tons, while southern mills raised local dispatches by 22.98 per cent to 624,833 tons.

Exports told a different story. There were no cement exports from north-based mills in September, compared with 221,252 tons a year earlier. South-based mills increased exports 36.26 per cent to 832,173 tons from 610,714 tons.

First quarter of FY27: domestic up, exports down

During the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, total cement dispatches increased 3.88 per cent to 13.141 million tons from 12.651 million tons a year earlier. Domestic dispatches rose 7.79 per cent to 10.845 million tons, while exports fell 11.32 per cent to 2.296 million tons.

North-based mills recorded domestic dispatches of 8.946 million tons during the quarter, up 6.80 per cent, but shipped no exports against 661,866 tons a year earlier, taking their total dispatches down 1.02 per cent to 8.946 million tons.

South-based mills recorded domestic dispatches of 1.899 million tons, up 12.71 per cent, while their exports increased 19.15 per cent to 2.296 million tons. Their total dispatches rose 16.15 per cent to 4.195 million tons during the quarter.

A spokesman for the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association expressed concern over the decline in exports and continued instability in energy prices. He said geopolitical tensions needed to ease to help the cement and allied industries recover.
