Pakistan-India Asian Games final: clear skies forecast for today’s gold-medal clash
Cricket fans can breathe easy. The weather is expected to stay clear for the first-ever Pakistan India Asian Games final, with forecasters predicting bright sunshine and almost no chance of rain at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin on Saturday.
Arch-rivals Pakistan and India meet in the gold-medal match of the 2026 Asian Games men’s cricket competition today. The winner takes gold, and the loser settles for silver.
According to AccuWeather, conditions in Nisshin will remain largely favourable through the match. The temperature is expected to reach 27°C, with a RealFeel of 28°C. The forecast describes “brilliant sunshine”, with the probability of precipitation at just 1 per cent and no thunderstorms expected.
Winds will blow from the west-northwest at around 11 kilometres per hour, gusting up to 24 km/h. Cloud cover is forecast at only 4 per cent, and the maximum UV index at 5, rated moderate. No measurable rain is expected, which means the final is unlikely to face any significant interruption.
The clear forecast will come as a relief after a tournament badly hit by rain. Six matches were abandoned during the competition, and the quarter-final between India and Afghanistan on September 27 was washed out at the same venue.
Pakistan India Asian Games final: first meeting at the Games
Saturday’s final will be the first time Pakistan and India have met in men’s cricket at the Asian Games, adding extra edge to an already fierce rivalry.
For Pakistan, it is a third appearance in a medal match at the Games. The Green Shirts won bronze in 2010 after beating Sri Lanka, in an edition where Bangladesh took gold by defeating Afghanistan in the final.
Neither India nor Pakistan sent their men’s teams to the 2014 edition because of scheduling conflicts. In 2023, Pakistan lost the bronze-medal match to Bangladesh, while India claimed gold after the final against Afghanistan was washed out.
Road to the final
India reached the final in dominant fashion, thrashing Sri Lanka by 124 runs in their semi-final on October 1. Ishan Kishan smashed an unbeaten 80 off 46 balls as India posted a big total, before Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 45.
Pakistan’s path was less smooth. Their semi-final against Bangladesh was reduced to 13 overs a side because of rain. Bangladesh made 111 for 7, and Pakistan chased down the 112-run target in 11.3 overs to win by six wickets, with Abdul Samad unbeaten on 30.
The bronze-medal playoff between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be played before the final on Saturday.
