Fakhar Zaman on Tuesday became the first Pakistani to smash 100 sixes in T20 internationals, reaching the landmark during the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The 36-year-old left-hander walked in needing one six to complete the century of maximums. He needed only seven deliveries, launching Sri Lanka left-arm seamer Binura Fernando over deep midwicket to bring up the milestone.
The hundred sixes came in 113 innings, a journey that began with his T20I debut for Pakistan back in 2017.
Fakhar Zaman 100 T20I sixes: a landmark nine years in the making
Fakhar’s route to the record reflects the arc of his international career — explosive at his best, and capable of changing a game inside an over. His six-hitting has been a signature of Pakistan’s white-ball batting through two T20 World Cup cycles.
The landmark puts him clear at the top of Pakistan’s all-time T20I six-hitters list:
| Batter | Sixes | Innings |
|---|---|---|
| Fakhar Zaman | 100 | 113 |
| Mohammad Rizwan | 95 | 93 |
| Sahibzada Farhan | 81 | 50 |
| Babar Azam | 80 | 136 |
| Mohammad Hafeez | 76 | 108 |
The table also tells its own story. Rizwan sits just five behind and could yet catch him, while captain Sahibzada Farhan’s 81 sixes in only 50 innings show the fastest scoring rate of the group. Former captain Babar Azam, long criticised for a modest strike rate, needed 136 innings for his 80.
Brief knock, bigger collapse
The celebration did not last long. Fakhar fell to Eshan Malinga shortly after reaching the milestone and walked back for 12 off seven deliveries, Geo Super reported.
His dismissal triggered a familiar middle-order wobble. Pakistan slumped to 102 for 6 before a counterattacking stand between captain Farhan and emerging all-rounder Arafat Minhas dragged the total to 168 for 8 in 20 overs.
It was not enough. Sri Lanka chased the target down with eight wickets in hand, Kusal Mendis anchoring the reply with an unbeaten 87 off 48 balls to take Player of the Match. The visitors’ consolation win denied Pakistan a series whitewash, though the hosts still took the series 2-1.
Series context
The landmark came at the end of a series Pakistan will remember fondly despite Tuesday’s defeat. Farhan’s 89 had powered the series-opening win in the 183 chase, and the captain’s consistency through the series — backed by his call for an aggressive approach — set the tone for the 2-1 result.
Fakhar, meanwhile, has been rebuilding his white-ball career this year. His fifty for Lahore Qalandars in the PSL earlier in the season was a reminder of what he offers when set, and his recall to the national side has now been crowned with a national record.
At 36, every milestone from here extends a record that belongs to him alone. Rizwan, five sixes behind, will have his say — but Tuesday night in Rawalpindi belonged to Fakhar Zaman.
