Fury vs Joshua: Tyson Fury to Invite Donald Trump on Ring Walk

Tyson Fury has said he will invite United States President Donald Trump to walk with him to the ring for his long-awaited heavyweight showdown with Anthony Joshua. The Fury vs Joshua fight is set for December 11 at the 80,000-capacity Principality Stadium in Cardiff, with tickets going on general sale on Friday, October 9.

“My old buddy, old pal”

Speaking after the two former heavyweight champions faced off for the first time this week, Fury confirmed he intends to make the offer to Trump.

“I’ll definitely make that offer to my old buddy, old pal, and we’ll see if he’s available,” Fury said. “Probably unlikely because of the situation he’s in at the moment, being the President of the United States.”

Fury met Trump at the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House in June, appearing in a cap that read “Donald Trump for Prime Minister”. The meeting followed the lifting of a US travel ban that had previously barred the British boxer from entering the country. Trump had intervened to grant Fury a visa, and Fury was later flown to Washington, DC, on a private jet, where he was courted by the president before the venue and date were finalised.

Fury vs Joshua: the fight itself

The December 11 clash, an all-British heavyweight bout a decade in the making, will be broadcast live on Netflix with the vacant WBA “super” heavyweight title on the line. Tickets go on general sale at noon BST on October 9.

Fury and Joshua came together at a public news conference on Wednesday, exchanging respectful words alongside the usual fighting talk after years of fraught negotiations. Joshua asked for a minute’s silence for two close friends killed in a car crash in Nigeria late last year, bringing the noisy crowd to a complete standstill. Fury recalled an old sparring session with Joshua, saying he had offered him a Rolex watch if he could knock him down.

“A warm-up for Usyk”

Fury, 38, insists the Joshua fight is merely preparation for a third meeting with Oleksandr Usyk, to whom he has lost twice, in May and December 2024.

“I don’t have any intention of retiring after Joshua. I’m using this bum as a warm-up for Usyk,” Fury said. “I can guarantee that on the night when I knock him spark out he won’t know what time it is. And then I want the rabbit in New York City.”

The former champion says 2026 will be his most active year since 2018, with the Joshua bout his third fight of the year. He said he has done 12 rounds with the 6ft 8in Arslanbek Makhmudov and seven rounds with the 6ft 7in Mariusz Wach in preparation.
