Yemeni Army Says 1,747 Houthis Neutralised in 1,122 Operations
Yemen’s internationally recognised army said on Monday it had neutralised 1,747 Houthi fighters across 1,122 military operations, issuing a new casualty claim that raises the toll sharply from earlier figures. Army spokesman Majed Abdullah al-Nuzaili announced the numbers on X, saying the operations had been carried out across several fronts.
1,747 Houthis neutralised: where the operations took place
According to al-Nuzaili, the operations targeted artillery and rocket-launcher positions, fortifications, approach and advance routes, supply lines, reinforcements and command-and-control centres. The fighting stretched across Saada, Al-Jawf and Taiz provinces and along Yemen’s western coast.
The army said it used warplanes, drones, artillery, missiles, rocket launchers and snipers in the operations. It added that 364 military vehicles and transport and supply assets had been destroyed or disabled. Al-Nuzaili said government forces would press on with the campaign to retake state territory and extend national sovereignty across the country.
A rising claim
Monday’s figures mark a clear escalation in the army’s public accounting of the campaign. Earlier reported claims put the toll at 1,540 Houthi casualties in roughly 474 to 500 operations on October 2 and 3, and 700 killed in 257 operations on October 3. The new claim of 1,747 neutralised in 1,122 operations is well above both.
The Houthis have not independently confirmed the losses, and the casualty figures could not be verified by independent sources. Both sides in Yemen’s war have a record of issuing battlefield claims that are difficult to check from the outside.
The wider campaign
The claim follows the announcement on Sunday by Rashad al-Alimi, chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, of comprehensive military operations aimed at retaking all Houthi-held territory. The fighting has been heaviest around Taiz, Yemen’s third city, where government forces have been pushing towards the front lines.
Yemen’s conflict began with the Houthi seizure of Sanaa in 2014 and the Saudi-led intervention in 2015. The current round of fighting has intensified since July, with a sharp escalation in September when the Houthis seized the port town of Mokha and advanced towards Mayyun Island, which overlooks the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The group has also struck targets inside Saudi Arabia, including energy sites, in attacks Riyadh attributes to the Houthis.
