Lahore Ring Road Fines Rise Up to 900%

The Lahore Ring Road Authority has raised fines for a long list of traffic violations on the Lahore Ring Road, with some penalties now up to 10 times higher than before. The new rates came into force under the “Safe Roads, Safe Punjab” vision, on the directives of authority chairperson Safiullah Gondal.

Driving without a valid licence will now cost Rs5,000, up from Rs500. Underage driving will draw a fine of Rs10,000, the highest penalty in the revised schedule. The Ring Road Police have urged motorists to follow the rules, and say the tougher fines aim to cut risky driving on one of Lahore’s busiest routes.

The revised rates apply to the Lahore Ring Road itself. They do not automatically apply to every road across Punjab, a point worth noting for drivers who use other routes in the city.

Licence, speeding and phone fines under the new schedule

Overspeeding and improper overtaking will each cost Rs5,000 for cars and Rs10,000 for vehicles above 2,000cc. Using a mobile phone while driving, or driving without a seatbelt, will now cost Rs3,000 instead of Rs500.

Driving in the wrong lane carries a Rs2,000 fine, while driving against traffic on a one-way road will cost Rs5,000. Overloading has jumped from Rs2,000 to Rs7,000, and illegal parking now costs Rs2,000 instead of Rs1,000.

What the new Lahore Ring Road fines mean for drivers

The sharpest rises hit the offences police link most closely to crashes. A licence fine of Rs5,000 is 10 times the old Rs500, and the Rs10,000 penalty for underage driving matches the top rate for large vehicles caught speeding or overtaking badly.

Pedestrians also face a steeper penalty. Crossing the Ring Road outside the rules now costs Rs1,000 instead of Rs200, and owners who bring animals onto the road will pay Rs5,000. Motorcycles remain banned from the Ring Road, and riders who enter it will pay Rs5,000.

The new schedule follows a wider enforcement push in Lahore. Recent action has included cases being registered for serious offences such as wrong-way driving and tampering with number plates. The road was also earlier set to get solar lights and an e-challan system, while Punjab announced new fines for 26 violations in May. The latest revision builds on that step, with rates set specifically for the Ring Road.

For daily commuters, the practical advice is simple. Carry a valid licence, keep to the speed limit, stay in lane, and keep phones away while driving. A single careless trip can now cost more than a week’s fuel for many small-car owners.
