JAECOO 7 Sets Fuel Record in UK Three Peaks Challenge

A standard production JAECOO 7 SHS-P plug-in hybrid has set a Guinness World Record for the lowest fuel consumption while completing the UK National Three Peaks Challenge. The JAECOO 7 Guinness record saw the car cover 469.5 miles across Scotland, England and Wales at 68.7 miles per gallon, or 24.3 kilometres per litre.

The record matters in Pakistan too, because the same Super Hybrid technology powers the JAECOO J7 SHS-P sold in Pakistan, where it is positioned as the country’s leading plug-in hybrid, supported by NexGen Auto and Nishat Group.

JAECOO 7 Guinness record: what the challenge involved

The National Three Peaks Challenge is one of Britain’s best-known endurance tests. It involves climbing the highest mountains of Scotland, England and Wales, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa, also known as Snowdon, while driving between them.

For the record attempt, television presenter Ben Shephard climbed all three peaks, while Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke shared the driving. The route covered 469.5 miles, about 756 kilometres, over motorways, mountain roads and country lanes.

The drive continued through the night, in rain, sunshine and high winds. Across the journey, the JAECOO 7 SHS-P returned 68.7 miles per gallon, or 24.3 kilometres per litre. That figure is a record for a plug-in hybrid production SUV completing the challenge.

A thoroughly verified result

The result was verified in detail. The RAC witnessed the sealing and reopening of the fuel filler and the charging port. Webfleet telematics and GPS tracking recorded the journey, summit evidence was collected, and a Guinness World Records adjudicator confirmed the result.

The vehicle was a standard production JAECOO 7 SHS-P with no modifications. That point matters, because it means the record was set by a car that ordinary buyers can buy, not by a specially prepared prototype.

As with any record attempt, the result reflects the conditions and method of this specific challenge. The 68.7 miles per gallon figure is not the car’s official WLTP figure, and real-world results will vary with driving style, terrain, temperature and how often the battery is charged.

The hybrid technology behind it

The JAECOO 7 SHS-P uses the Super Hybrid System Plug-in, which combines a petrol engine with electric power. It offers up to 56 miles, about 90 kilometres, of electric range and can rapid-charge from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in around 20 minutes under suitable conditions.

The approach is simple in principle. The car can run on electricity for daily driving and switch to hybrid operation for longer trips, without range anxiety. For short daily commutes, the electric range may cover most driving, while the petrol engine takes over on motorway journeys.

The record comes as the JAECOO 7 continues to perform strongly in Britain. In September 2026 it was reported as Britain’s best-selling new car for the month, and it is the second best-selling new car in the UK so far this year.

Why it matters for Pakistan

The JAECOO J7 SHS-P arrived in Pakistan with the OMODA and JAECOO launch on August 1, 2025 at Expo Centre Lahore, backed by NexGen Auto, part of Nishat Group, a $100 million investment and local assembly in Faisalabad. It has since become Pakistan’s leading plug-in hybrid.

The record also speaks to a second Pakistani reality: roads that go from city traffic to long motorway stretches to steep mountain passes in a single trip. The Three Peaks challenge combined motorway miles, mountain roads, night driving and bad weather, which is a demanding test of efficiency and reliability. For Pakistani owners who take their J7 to the Northern Areas, it is encouraging proof that the technology performs well when conditions are tough.

It also reinforces confidence behind the J7’s growth in Pakistan. Nishat Group’s reputation for after-sales service, dealership reach and customer care, combined with the technology credentials shown on the UK record, gives buyers a clear reason to choose the J7 SHS-P: a proven global product, locally supported.

In Pakistan, transport costs remain a major concern for families and businesses. Pakistan’s auto policy has put 1.5 million jobs at risk, according to industry warnings, Pakistan Railways has declared a three-month emergency amid rising train accidents, and the government has increased fines for vehicle overloading. Pakistan has also moved to scrap business rules that discourage foreign investors.
