National Cricket Academy Lahore: Facilities, Trials and History Explained
The National Cricket Academy in Lahore is the most famous building in Pakistan cricket that most fans will never enter. Founded in 2003 beside Gaddafi Stadium, it is where the PCB grooms its future internationals — and in 2025–26 it has been upgraded into a genuinely modern high-performance centre. Here is everything the NCA is, and how it works.
Quick answer: The National Cricket Academy Lahore, founded in 2003 next to Gaddafi Stadium, is the PCB’s flagship training centre. It runs U15–U19 pathway programmes and elite camps, now with an ICC-approved biomechanics lab, AI bowling machine and Athlete Management System under Director of High Performance Aaqib Javed.
History of the NCA
The PCB dates the academy’s birth to 2003, with full operations from 2004 as the board’s game-development headquarters. Early programmes included 12-week emerging-player courses and specialised coaching with consultants like Javed Miandad (batting), Sarfaraz Nawaz (fast bowling), Abdul Qadir (spin) and Rashid Latif (wicketkeeping). In October 2019 the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited — the first royal visit to the academy. After years of uneven use, the PCB’s 2025 domestic restructuring fully revived the NCA as the hub of the national bench strength. See the Pakistan cricket academy hub for the full network.
Facilities Today
The 2026 NCA includes: an ICC-approved biomechanics lab (being relocated back from a Lahore university) for bowling-action analysis; an AI-powered bowling machine; the Athlete Management System for tracking player development; upgraded gym and training facilities; and — since July 2026 — compulsory padel sessions (40 minutes, alternate days) for agility and fitness. Former captain Aamir Sohail’s October 2026 review found the prerequisites for player development “now available in the true sense” — read his full assessment.
Trials and Selection
There are no public NCA trials. Players are invited by PCB junior selectors after performing in age-group domestic cricket, regional tournaments and pathway camps. If you want the pathway that leads here, read how to join a cricket academy in Pakistan.
