Meta is testing a new subscription called Instagram Plus. The service will give users access to exclusive features and perks.
Instagram has offered subscriptions before, mostly for creators. Since 2022, users could subscribe to creators for exclusive photos and stories. Now, Instagram Plus takes subscriptions a step further, giving broader tools to users themselves.
The subscription is not available to everyone yet. Meta is testing it with a small group of users. A Reddit user shared that they received a prompt to try Instagram Plus free for a month. The prompt also listed the subscription’s features.
Instagram Plus will offer several story-focused features. Users can create multiple story audiences, track story rewatches, see story previews, extend story expirations, and search their story viewer list. Subscribers can also send “super hearts” and highlight their stories.
The price of Instagram Plus is still unclear. A Reddit screenshot showed the cost in Mexican Pesos, roughly $2 per month. For comparison, Snapchat+ costs $3.99 per month, and X Premium costs $8 per month. Meta may adjust the price when it officially launches.
Instagram Plus may not reach all users. Meta could cancel it if demand is low. Features could also change before a wider release.
Experts say Instagram’s move is unsurprising. Premium subscriptions for social media have grown in recent years. Meta may also benefit from an additional revenue stream as it invests heavily in AI technologies.
For users, Instagram Plus could offer a more personalized story experience. The features may appeal to active users who want greater control and analytics for their content.
Meta has not confirmed when Instagram Plus will launch for all users. For now, testing continues with select participants.
