Rawalpindi has officially renamed the historic Kutchery Chowk as Marka-e-Haq Square in a major development aimed at improving traffic flow and modernizing the city’s road infrastructure.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will inaugurate the newly completed Marka-e-Haq Square project during her visit to Rawalpindi. The project has already drawn public attention due to its large-scale construction and rapid completion timeline.
According to officials, authorities completed the mega project within just six months. The government spent more than Rs19 billion on the development work. In addition, the project includes two flyovers, three underpasses, and two steel bridges designed to reduce traffic congestion in busy areas of the city.
Meanwhile, Rawalpindi Police finalized strict security arrangements for the inauguration ceremony. Police authorities deployed heavy contingents of Elite Force personnel, Special Branch teams, and district police officers across important routes and event locations.
Officials instructed all security staff to report on time and remain alert during the ceremony. Furthermore, police authorities directed personnel not to carry mobile phones while performing security duties. Officers will remain at their assigned points until route operations end.
The renaming of Kutchery Chowk to Marka-e-Haq Square has also sparked discussions among residents and social media users. Many citizens welcomed the move and praised the government for completing such a large infrastructure project in a short period.
Residents believe the upgraded road network around Marka-e-Haq Square will help reduce daily traffic pressure in Rawalpindi. The area often experiences heavy vehicle movement during peak hours. Therefore, commuters expect smoother traffic flow after the project becomes fully operational.
In addition, business owners near the intersection hope the improved road system will increase commercial activity and make transportation easier for customers and traders.
Government officials say the project reflects Punjab’s broader focus on urban development and modern transport systems. They also claim similar projects may continue in other major cities to improve road connectivity and public convenience.
