Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has allocated Rs468.379 billion for the education sector in the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2026-27. The announcement came during the budget session of the KP Assembly, where Chief Minister Sohail Afridi outlined the government’s plans to improve educational facilities and expand access to learning opportunities across the province.
The substantial allocation under the KP Education Budget reflects the government’s focus on strengthening the education system and investing in future generations. According to the chief minister, education remains a key pillar of development and plays a central role in building a prosperous and competitive society.
While presenting the budget, Sohail Afridi said the provincial government considers education essential for economic growth and social progress. Therefore, the administration continues to prioritize policies that improve learning outcomes and increase school enrollment.
The KP Education Budget includes funding for several development projects aimed at improving educational infrastructure. The government plans to expand access to quality education by establishing model schools and opening new primary schools in underserved areas. As a result, more children will gain access to modern learning facilities closer to their homes.
In addition, the government has continued work on the construction of classrooms, boundary walls, science laboratories, washrooms, and examination halls. These projects aim to create a better learning environment for students and provide schools with facilities that support quality education.
The chief minister also highlighted efforts to address infrastructure gaps in public schools. He said many institutions require additional facilities to accommodate growing student populations. Therefore, the government intends to accelerate development work during the upcoming fiscal year.
A major component of the KP Education Budget focuses on improving school resources. During the current fiscal year, the government released Rs7 billion to provide furniture in public schools. This initiative aims to ensure that furniture is available in 23,076 schools throughout the province.

The government has also taken steps to address teacher shortages. Sohail Afridi announced the approval of more than 10,000 primary school teaching positions. This recruitment drive seeks to strengthen the education workforce and improve student-teacher ratios in government schools.
Furthermore, the administration approved the induction of 2,500 education interns. These interns will support schools and contribute to educational activities across the province. As a result, schools will receive additional human resources to meet growing academic needs.
