Vawda Says ‘System Reboot’ Underway After KP Emergency
Senator Faisal Vawda on Tuesday declared that a comprehensive “system reboot” is officially underway following the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Addressing a press conference, Vawda said the old system had failed and the new administrative setup in the province would be held to strict delivery deadlines.
60-day warning for the governor
In his sharpest remark, Vawda warned that if Governor Faisal Karim Kundi fails to produce visible results within 60 days, he too will be replaced. The warning puts the governor — who took charge of the province under the new arrangement — on a public clock.
Vawda criticised the PTI’s 13-year rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, alleging the province had suffered extensive damage during that period. He said the province belonged to its people and was not the property of any political party. He also highlighted the sacrifices of security personnel and civilians in the fight against terrorism, claiming that 7,500 people, including military and police personnel, had embraced martyrdom.
He said the fight against terrorism must succeed, calling the next 180 days a crucial period, and said results under the new arrangement would start becoming visible within 60 days while people would receive relief within 180 days. He stressed that public backing should depend on performance rather than political slogans.
The backdrop
The press conference came two days after the federal government imposed an emergency and governor’s rule in KP on Sunday, citing the growing terrorism threat and the former provincial government’s unwillingness to cooperate with federal agencies.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said on Tuesday that terrorist incidents in the province rose 195 per cent over the last two years to roughly 8,600, compared with about 2,900 between 2021 and 2024.
The PTI has rejected the move, calling October 11 a black day for democracy and challenging it in the Peshawar High Court. The PPP, meanwhile, has defended the decision, saying the party chose the country’s interests over its own politics.
Vawda’s “reboot” framing — and his public deadline for the governor — signals that the new setup in Peshawar will be judged on delivery, not just on taking charge.
