Newly married couple gunned down near Larkana; DIG orders arrests
Unidentified armed men gunned down a young couple who had married of their own free will in Qambar-Shahdadkot district on Wednesday, in a Larkana double murder that has put the district police under pressure to deliver quick arrests.
The village lies about 60km from Larkana. The attackers escaped after the shooting.
The couple came from Shikarpur district. They had married through a court about four months earlier and, sensing danger, had moved to Qubo Saeed Khan, where they worked in farm fields.
Larkana double murder: what police say so far
The double murder took place in Ghulam Shah village, about 60km from Larkana, in the jurisdiction of the Qubo Saeed Khan police station in Qambar-Shahdadkot district.
Larkana DIG Sheraz Nazir took notice of the incident. He contacted Qambar-Shahdadkot SSP Hassan Sardar Ahmed Khan Niazi for a detailed report and ordered immediate arrests.
The motive for the killing of the young couple has not yet been established.
The couple had married through a court about four months before the killing. According to the account given to police, they sensed danger after the marriage and left Shikarpur for Qubo Saeed Khan, where they supported themselves through work in the farm fields. Their past, and whether someone followed them to their new home, is now central to the investigation.
Arrests in the Ratodero killings
Separately, Larkana police on Wednesday arrested Yasin Ghanghro, the main suspect nominated in the FIR over the killing of five men in Ratodero. He was picked up from the Maqbool Shah area.
On Saturday, five men were gunned down in a targeted attack at a shop on the outskirts of Ratodero. The dead were Rajab Ali Ghanghro, his three sons Riaz Ali, Qurban Ali and Bilawal Ghanghro, and passer-by Abdullah Brohi.
Police said the attack stemmed from an old dispute between two Ghanghro factions over agricultural land. Motorbike-riding assailants sprayed the shop with bullets and fled.
Ratodero police also arrested proclaimed offender Junaid Jalbani, wanted in the murders of Hanif Brohi and Rizwan Soomro and in terrorism cases, at Hasanpur. Hafeez Sianch, a suspect in the Muzammil Joyo murder case, was arrested from the Selra Bypass area.
The hunt for the remaining killers continues.
What happens next
Police are under pressure to make quick arrests in the Khoso double murder, with the DIG personally monitoring the case. In Ratodero, investigators are pursuing the remaining suspects in the five-man killing.
