Maaz Sadaqat Climbs 187 Places in ICC T20I Rankings After Sri Lanka Heroics

DUBAI: Pakistan’s Maaz Sadaqat and Salman Mirza made big gains in the latest ICC men’s T20I rankings released on Wednesday, riding their strong performances in the recently concluded three-match series against Sri Lanka, which Pakistan won 2-1.

The Maaz Sadaqat ICC rankings jump of 187 places was among the biggest moves in the batting chart. The young top-order batter climbed to 45th with 533 rating points after back-to-back half-centuries, including a 96 in the second T20I in which he and captain Sahibzada Farhan shared a match-winning stand. Farhan also broke a T20I series record in that game.

Sadaqat’s rise caps a breakthrough series for the 21-year-old all-rounder. He struck 50 off 29 balls in the first T20I and followed it with 96 in the second, where Pakistan posted 215 for 3 and won by 82 runs to seal the series.

The rest of the batting chart brought mixed news for Pakistan:

India’s Ishan Kishan continues to lead the batting rankings, with compatriot Abhishek Sharma second. Farhan, who retained third place, is closing in on Sharma with 883 points. Fakhar Zaman also reached a personal landmark during the series.

Mirza leads the bowling gains

Pacer Salman Mirza climbed nine places to 14th with 635 points after his sharp spells against Sri Lanka, including two for 28 in the second T20I and the early bouncer that removed Lahiru Udara. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan retained the top spot, with Australia’s Adam Zampa second and England’s Adil Rashid third. Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed slipped out of the top three to fourth with 695 points.

Elsewhere, Mohammad Nawaz dropped six places to 18th with 626 points, Shaheen Afridi slipped four to 40th, Sufiyan Muqeem fell three to 53rd and Usman Tariq dropped four to 67th. In the all-rounders’ chart, Saim Ayub climbed eight spots to 54th and Shadab Khan improved three places to 74th.

What it means for Pakistan

The update underlines how quickly the Sri Lanka series reshaped Pakistan’s standing. Back in June, Mirza sat 20th among bowlers; he is now 14th, while Farhan has held third place since February and lifted his rating from 769 to 883 points. Sadaqat’s entry into the top 50 after only a handful of T20Is marks him as the standout find of the home season.

Pakistan’s next assignment is the ODI tri-series, for which the squad reports in Islamabad, and the team management will hope the batting form carries into the longer white-ball format.
