About the role
The Permanent Representative — Pakistan’s ambassador to the UN — heads the Permanent Mission in New York, speaks for Pakistan in the General Assembly and Security Council, and coordinates the country’s multilateral diplomacy. During Security Council terms (most recently 2025–26), the envoy also sits on the world’s most powerful diplomatic body — and, in rotation, presides over it.
