One bright and peaceful morning, Pip and Lumi were walking to school together. The air felt fresh, birds were singing softly, and the sun shone warmly over the quiet street.
As they passed a small garden, Lumi suddenly stopped.
“Pip… wait,” she said softly. “Did you hear that?”
They both listened carefully.
A faint, sad sound came from behind a bush.
They slowly moved closer and found a tiny puppy sitting alone. It looked weak, scared, and hungry.
“Oh no… it’s all alone,” Pip said with concern.
The puppy looked at them with big, watery eyes and let out a soft cry.
Lumi gently knelt down and stroked its head.
“Don’t worry… we won’t leave you,” she whispered.
Pip looked around.
“There’s no one nearby. It must be lost.”
He checked his watch and said,
“We’re getting late for school. What should we do?”
For a moment, both of them stayed quiet.
“We could go now and come back later,” Pip suggested.
But Lumi shook her head.
“What if something happens to it before we return?”
Pip looked at the little puppy again. It was shivering.
“You’re right,” he said. “We can’t leave it like this.”
They decided to help.
Lumi carefully picked up the puppy, and Pip guided the way home.
At home, they gave the puppy some milk and water. Pip found an old box and made a small bed using a soft cloth.
The puppy slowly started wagging its tail.
“Look! It’s feeling better,” Lumi said with a smile.
But Pip knew something was still missing.
“We have to find its owner,” he said.
After school, they made small posters and wrote:
“Lost Puppy – Found near garden.”
They walked through the neighborhood, asking people one by one.
“Have you lost a puppy?” they asked kindly.
Some people stopped and looked, but no one claimed it.
As the sun began to set, Pip said,
“Maybe we won’t find the owner today.”
Lumi looked at the puppy and said softly,
“We’ll keep trying tomorrow.”
Just then, an elderly woman came running toward them.
“My puppy! Have you seen my puppy?” she asked, her voice full of worry.
Lumi smiled brightly.
“Yes! We found it near the garden.”
The woman’s eyes filled with tears as she hugged the puppy tightly.
“Thank you… thank you so much,” she said.
“I was so worried. I thought I had lost him forever.”
Pip and Lumi felt truly happy.
“You’re welcome,” Pip replied.
“We just wanted to help,” Lumi added.
The woman looked at them with gratitude.
“You both have very kind hearts.”
She gave them a small box of sweets as a token of thanks.
As they walked home, Pip smiled and said,
“We were late for school… but it was worth it.”
Lumi nodded happily.
“Helping someone feels better than anything else.”
From that day on, Pip and Lumi understood something very important.
Kindness doesn’t always take much time or effort.
But it can mean everything to someone in need.
Kindness always brings happiness and makes the world a better place.
