Islamabad: Internet users across the country may face an internet service disruption during the coming days as technical repair work begins on an international submarine cable system.
Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) issued an advisory informing customers of possible temporary connectivity issues from May 11 to May 18.
According to the company, the repair work involves a major international submarine cable that supports global internet traffic. Therefore, users in different cities may notice slower browsing speeds and unstable connections during this period.
PTCL stated that the expected internet service disruption could become more noticeable during evening hours. At that time, internet usage usually increases because people stream videos, attend online meetings, and use social media platforms more actively.
The company also explained that engineers and technical teams continue to monitor the network around the clock. As a result, officials aim to reduce the impact of the repair work and maintain stable connectivity for customers as much as possible.
Meanwhile, many users have already expressed concerns on social media regarding possible service interruptions. Several businesses, freelancers, students, and content creators depend heavily on stable internet connections for daily work and communication. Therefore, even a short internet service disruption could affect online activities in different sectors.
Experts say submarine cable systems play a critical role in global internet infrastructure. These undersea cables connect countries and carry large volumes of international data traffic every second. Whenever faults or maintenance work take place, internet providers often experience reduced bandwidth capacity.
However, PTCL assured users that the maintenance work remains necessary to improve long-term network reliability and performance. The company also advised customers to expect temporary fluctuations in internet quality while repair operations continue.
In addition, telecom experts believe that internet services should return to normal immediately after the maintenance is complete. Until then, users may continue to experience occasional slowdowns and temporary interruptions across various online platforms.
Overall, the planned maintenance has heightened concerns about another internet service disruption in Pakistan in the coming week.
