Taylor Swift Crashes Dakota Johnson’s SNL Monologue as Her ‘Literal Therapist’
Taylor Swift made a surprise SNL cameo during Dakota Johnson’s opening monologue on Saturday night, walking out onto the 30 Rock stage as the host joked about her history of dating musicians.
Johnson, hosting Saturday Night Live for the third time in the show’s 52nd season, poked fun at her “two very public, very lame breakups with two very awesome musicians” before introducing Swift as “my literal therapist”. The singer appeared to huge cheers and played along with the bit for several minutes.
“I’m not your therapist, actually. You just show up once a week at my house with an empty bottle of wine and ask if I want some,” Swift quipped. “And then you flop on my couch and overshare and every so often I just say, ‘Damn, that’s crazy.'”
Johnson, promoting her new thriller “Verity”, compared her relationships to the film’s theme. “Some of them don’t wear shoes, some of them are terrible in bed. All of them are in my DMs,” she said. “Some people leave concerts with merch, I leave concerts with a two-and-a-half-year relationship.”
Ninth Taylor Swift SNL cameo ends with a birthday cake
The Taylor Swift SNL cameo did not end with the monologue. Swift returned at the end of the night to surprise Johnson with a birthday cake during the goodnights, as the host celebrated turning 37 at midnight.
Johnson had joked during the monologue that she was doing a public service by dating male musicians, saving other women “a lot of money” on the antidepressant Zoloft. “So you’re welcome, America. Also England and parts of Ireland and Cleveland, allegedly,” she said, a nod to rumours linking her with Cleveland native Machine Gun Kelly. Swift whooped at the mention of Cleveland, the hometown of her husband Travis Kelce, according to Page Six.
The appearance was Swift’s ninth on “SNL”, including four stints as musical guest, one as host in 2009 and four cameos. Her last appearance came in October 2023, when she introduced Ice Spice. Johnson and Colin Farrell also star in Swift’s latest music video, “Patient Zero”, which she directed and which premiered during the MTV Video Music Awards last Sunday.
Johnson’s dating history has been tabloid fodder for years. She dated Noah Gersh from 2007 to 2010, Drowners frontman Mathew Hitt from 2014 to 2016, and Coldplay’s Chris Martin from 2017 until 2025, before splitting with musician Role Model earlier this year after less than a year together.
