Pakistani drama fans have suddenly found an old favourite back in the spotlight.
HUM TV has announced the return of its star-studded period drama Aangan, bringing Mawra Hocane, Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Aly back to television screens nearly eight years after its original run.
But there is one reason the announcement has caught particular attention.
The drama features Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir, whose on-screen pairing became extremely popular before their marriage and later divorce. Their appearance in the same returning drama has naturally revived memories among fans who once closely followed the pair.
However, viewers should keep one thing clear.
This does not mean Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir have signed a new project together.
Aangan originally aired on HUM TV from December 2018 to June 2019. The channel is now bringing the existing drama back rather than producing a new season with the former couple.
Still, the timing has made the re-run much more interesting.
For many viewers, this will be the first time in years that they see Sajal and Ahad sharing the same screen in a full television drama. That alone has given an old production a completely new layer of curiosity.
HUM TV recently released a fresh “coming soon” teaser for Aangan. The official teaser again lists Sajal Aly, Ahad Raza Mir, Mawra Hocane, Ahsan Khan and other members of the original cast.
The drama tells a much larger story than one romantic pairing.
Based on Khadija Mastoor’s acclaimed novel, Aangan is set around the Partition era and follows a complicated family dealing with love, relationships and major social changes. Mawra Hocane plays Aaliya, while Ahad Raza Mir appears as Jameel and Sajal Aly plays Chammi.
Ahsan Khan also plays an important part in the drama and appeared in dual roles.
The ensemble further includes Hira Mani, Sonya Hussyn, the late Abid Ali, Omair Rana, Madiha Rizvi and several other familiar television faces.
When Aangan first aired, it arrived with huge expectations because of its cast, period setting and literary source.
However, one major limitation followed the drama for years: audiences had very limited access to it online. Reports around the latest comeback say the drama is now also expected to reach YouTube, giving viewers who missed the original run another opportunity to watch it.
That could make the 2026 return very different from its first television run.
A younger audience that knows Sajal Aly, Ahad Raza Mir and Mawra Hocane from their later projects may now discover Aangan for the first time.
At the same time, longtime fans are likely to watch the drama with a completely different perspective.
When Aangan originally aired, Sajal and Ahad’s personal relationship had not yet gone through the developments that later became public knowledge. Today, viewers already know that the two actors married and later separated.
That history means even old scenes can now attract fresh discussion on social media.
But could this re-run open the door for Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir to actually work together again?
Technically, yes.
Actors who previously had a personal relationship can professionally work on the same production if both agree to the project and production arrangements. There is no general industry rule preventing former spouses from sharing a screen.
However, there is currently no verified announcement showing that Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir have agreed to a new drama, film or advertisement together.
So fans should separate two very different things.
Seeing them together again in Aangan is confirmed because HUM TV is bringing back their old work. A fresh professional reunion remains speculation unless the actors, their representatives or a production company announce one.
Interestingly, the return may also remind audiences why their pairing became so widely discussed in the first place.
Their characters in Aangan formed an important part of the drama’s romantic storyline, and the series arrived during a period when both actors were becoming major names in Pakistani television.
For some viewers, that nostalgia may become the biggest attraction of the re-run.
For others, Mawra Hocane’s Aaliya, the Partition-era setting and the ensemble performances may be the real reason to revisit the drama.
Either way, HUM TV has managed to turn an older serial into a fresh conversation.
The channel has not announced this as a reunion project between Sajal and Ahad. It is simply returning Aangan to audiences.
But in entertainment, context changes everything.
In 2018, audiences watched Sajal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir as two rising stars sharing a drama.
In 2026, many viewers will watch those same scenes with years of public history attached to the names.
And that may be exactly why an eight-year-old drama suddenly feels new again.
