Israeli forces struck several areas across Gaza on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Palestinian media reported deaths and injuries in the attacks. The strikes add to the long list of Gaza ceasefire violations. Meanwhile, a fragile truce has been in force since October 10, 2025. However, the agreement breaks down again and again. The new bloodshed shows how fragile the truce remains.

Deadly Gaza Ceasefire Violations on October 17
An Israeli drone hit a civilian gathering in the Tuffah neighborhood. The area lies northeast of Gaza City. WAFA reported that one Palestinian died in the strike. Several others also suffered injuries in the same attack. The Times of Israel named the dead man as Majid al-Subagh. It cited Palestinian media for the identification. The Israel Defense Forces also said it had targeted a terror operative. It added that the outcome stayed under review.
On the same day, another drone strike killed a Palestinian child. The attack took place on al-Birka Street, south of Deir al-Balah. Four other people suffered wounds there, Shehab News reported. Haaretz carried the report from the Palestinian outlet. Meanwhile, WAFA said Israeli forces opened heavy fire south of Khan Younis. Artillery also shelled eastern Gaza City, according to the agency. The reports paint a picture of a tense Saturday across the Strip.
In addition, the Palestine Chronicle reported two deaths in Gaza City on Saturday. It also said Israeli forces fired on tents sheltering displaced Palestinians near Khan Younis. Separately, the IDF said it had killed four members of the Hamas military wing. The strikes took place over the past three days, Haaretz reported. The conflicting accounts make independent reporting difficult.
IDF Response
The Israel Defense Forces described at least one Saturday strike as a targeted operation. It also said the target was a terror operative. It added that the outcome stayed under review. However, Palestinian officials disputed this account. They described the targets as civilian gatherings and family tents. Each side tells a very different story.
The Toll of Gaza Ceasefire Violations
These strikes continue the pattern of Gaza ceasefire violations. The ceasefire took effect on October 10, 2025. Gaza’s Health Ministry says Israeli violations have killed 1,493 Palestinians since then. The ministry also puts the number of injured at 5,299, Anadolu Agency reported. Gaza’s health authorities collect these figures. International wire services then carry the numbers. However, independent verification remains difficult. Outside observers face restricted access to the territory. The numbers grow with every new round of attacks.
UNICEF Warns of Worsening Conditions
UNICEF issued a warning on October 17 as well. The agency said more than 340 children have died since the ceasefire began. Moreover, hundreds more suffered injuries in the same period. For example, Al Jazeera and 8am.media reported the figures. Attacks in the past two weeks alone killed five boys and two girls. In addition, more than 33 children suffered serious injuries. The figures shock aid workers around the world.
Meanwhile, around 800,000 children remain displaced across Gaza, UNICEF said. Winter is approaching, and conditions may worsen. Destroyed housing leaves families without shelter. Clean water also remains hard to find. Medical services also face severe strain. As a result, the youngest residents face the greatest risk. Many families sleep in tents as winter nears. The cold months bring new dangers for children.
The agency renewed its call for all sides to respect the ceasefire. It also demanded unrestricted humanitarian access for civilians across the Strip. Ending Gaza ceasefire violations would let aid reach families faster. Recently, Angelina Jolie’s Gaza appeal also highlighted the humanitarian crisis. Global pressure for a lasting peace keeps rising.
The ceasefire deal raised hopes across the region. However, those hopes fade with every new strike. For now, civilians pay the highest price.
