Can We Renew Passport Online in Pakistan? Yes — Here’s the Full Process

Standing in a passport office queue is no longer the only way to renew. Pakistan’s online renewal system lets you extend your passport from your phone or laptop — whether you live in Lahore or London. Here is exactly how it works in 2026.

Quick answer: Yes — you can renew your Pakistani passport online at onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk. The portal accepts renewals for expired passports and those nearing expiry, for both inland and overseas Pakistanis. Upload your old passport, CNIC, photo and fingerprint form, pay by card, and track by SMS to 9988.

When Can You Renew?

You can apply for renewal once your passport has expired or is close to expiry — DGIP’s portal accepts applications for passports with limited validity remaining. At renewal you can also switch to a longer validity (5 or 10 years) and upgrade from an MRP to an e-passport if you want the biometric chip and e-gate access.

Renewal Steps

  1. Log in at onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk (new users register with SMS/email verification).
  2. Choose “Renewal” and enter your existing passport details.
  3. Upload the first two pages of your old passport, your CNIC copy, a digital photo (under 5 MB) and the scanned fingerprint form.
  4. Select validity and pages: 36/72/100 pages, 5 or 10 years, normal or urgent.
  5. Pay online by Visa/Mastercard. DGIP operates a strict no-refund policy.
  6. Submit after reviewing and signing the declaration.

Renewal Fees 2026

Renewal costs the same as a new passport. For the e-passport: 36 pages, 5 years — Rs 9,000 normal / Rs 15,000 urgent; 36 pages, 10 years — Rs 13,500 / Rs 22,500; 72 pages — Rs 16,500–Rs 40,500. For the standard MRP: 36 pages, 5 years — Rs 4,500 normal / Rs 7,500 urgent. Full tables in our e-passport Pakistan guide.

Delivery & Collection

Overseas Pakistanis receive the renewed passport by home delivery (currently available for a limited number of countries — check the portal). Inland applicants collect from their preferred Regional Passport Office or Executive Passport Office. Since July 2026, DGIP has also partnered with TCS for home delivery within Pakistan in select service tiers — confirm the option on your application.

Keep your token number safe and track the application (details in our helpline & tracking guide). Also see how to pay the passport fee online for every cashless method.

Frequently Asked Questions

DGIP’s portal accepts renewal applications for expired passports and those nearing expiry. Renewing early is wise if you have travel planned, since many countries require 6 months of passport validity for entry.
