Geely Launches in Pakistan With Bestway, Unveils Three EVs

Bestway Group has launched Chinese carmaker Geely Auto in Pakistan, unveiling three new energy vehicles at a ceremony in Islamabad. The Geely launches in Pakistan mark Bestway’s entry into the automotive sector, with sales and after-sales support to run through Bestway Automotive, the group’s newly formed car business.

Bestway Automotive will act as Geely’s sole authorised distributor in Pakistan. The company will start by selling imported vehicles while it prepares a Karachi facility for local assembly. Bestway says it aims to have locally assembled Geely vehicles on Pakistani roads within the next few months.

Three models for Pakistani buyers

The launch line-up covers three models. The Geely EX2 is a compact, fully electric hatchback built for city driving. The Geely EX5 is a fully electric sports utility vehicle. The Starray EM-R uses range-extended electric technology, which pairs electric driving with an onboard petrol engine for longer trips.

Irfan Sheikh, Bestway Group’s managing director for non-banking businesses, said the launch was a proud moment for the group. He said the partnership brought together Bestway’s decades of experience in building businesses in Pakistan and Geely’s global expertise in the car industry. He added that the three models were only an exciting first step in the journey.

Prices, booking dates and final Pakistan specifications have not been announced yet. Buyers will have to wait for those details through official channels. That gap matters, because price will decide how far the new models reach beyond early buyers.

Why the Geely launches in Pakistan matter for buyers

The launch adds another Chinese brand to Pakistan’s growing electric vehicle market. For buyers, the immediate gain is choice: a small electric hatchback for city use, a larger electric sports utility vehicle, and a range-extended option for drivers who worry about charging on long routes.

Bestway has also set out ownership plans that go beyond the cars themselves. The group plans a nationwide dealership network, online booking, financing through United Bank Limited, and a charging network built by Bestway Renewable Technologies. Reports of the launch also point to a proposed warranty of up to six years or 150,000 kilometres on the vehicle, and eight years on the battery and motor.

Local assembly is the longer prize. Bestway is preparing its 24.71-acre facility at Port Qasim in Karachi for completely knocked-down assembly. The site has more than 403,000 square feet of covered space and existing capacity to assemble up to 25,000 vehicles a year. Local assembly would cut costs, create factory jobs and build a local parts supply chain, if volumes follow.

Bestway’s bet on Pakistan

Haider Choudrey, Bestway Group’s chief executive, said Geely’s arrival extended a longstanding commitment to Pakistan. He said the group had invested more than $350 million in Pakistan through sectors such as cement manufacturing and banking, creating over 20,000 jobs and supporting livelihoods in the last three years alone.

Evin Ye, vice president of Geely Auto International Corporation and managing director of Geely Auto ASEAN, said Pakistan was Geely’s first market in South Asia. He said the company saw significant potential in the country and described the move as a long-term commitment to grow with Bestway, strengthen customer support, and bring safe, intelligent and high-quality mobility to Pakistani families.

The timing fits a wider shift. Passenger car sales in Pakistan reached 155,631 units in the 2025-26 financial year, up 39 per cent year on year, according to market reports of the launch. Geely’s entry also follows an agreement announced in July, after which the EX2 and EX5 were spotted in Pakistan in September. The launch turns months of preparation into a public commitment.

What happens next will depend on prices, delivery dates and the charging network. If Bestway delivers local assembly and after-sales cover at scale, Geely could move from a launch headline to a regular sight on Pakistani roads.
