Fury Joshua Fight On Despite Injury Claims, Camp Says
The Fury Joshua fight will go ahead as planned on December 11 in Cardiff, Tyson Fury’s camp has said, denying claims that the heavyweight is carrying an injury.
The doubts were raised by former British heavyweight Frank Bruno, 64. Fury’s promoter Frank Warren dismissed them in blunt terms.
“Nonsense. Absolute nonsense,” Warren told The Sun. “That’s news to me. Absolute news to me.”
What Bruno claimed
Bruno spoke on the Midnite podcast Fight Your Corner, alongside Tony Bellew. He suggested Fury may be carrying an injury in training camp, which could stop the Joshua fight.
“I looked at him the other day and I think someone was talking to me in the gym that he’s got some injury, which may stop him from going into the fight with Anthony Joshua? And having that on your head ain’t nice,” Bruno said.
Bruno did not name any specific injury.
Fury’s camp denied the claim to Sky Sports News. Warren said Fury is “doing well” and training in Miami under Sugar Hill Steward, sparring Joe Joyce and Jarrell Miller. Warren admitted he had not spoken to Fury for a week.
talkSPORT also understands the claims are wide of the mark.
The Fury Joshua fight
Fury will face Joshua on Friday, December 11, 2026, at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. The vacant WBA (Super) heavyweight title will be on the line.
Ring walks for the main event are expected at around 1am in the early hours of Saturday, December 12. The stadium will stay open until 3.30am.
The stadium has sold out, and the fight will be broadcast on Netflix. Saudi boxing chief Turki Al-Sheikh announced the fight in September after a weeks-long venue saga.
No response from Joshua’s side to the injury claim was reported. Joshua sent a defiant message on October 22, while Fury has warned Joshua he will be “sparked out” on December 11.
Why the title matters
The WBA (Super) title is vacant after Oleksandr Usyk gave it up. The winner in Cardiff will become a three-time heavyweight champion.
About 80,000 tickets sold out within an hour, with prices from £88.50 to £13,128. The scale of demand shows how long British fight fans have waited for this bout.
Both men come into the fight with 2026 wins behind them. Fury beat Arslanbek Makhmudov and Mariusz Wach, while Joshua beat Jake Paul and Kristian Prenga.
Fury looks beyond December
Fury, 38, says he plans to keep boxing after the Joshua fight. He told WSVN Miami from training camp: “I’m going to continue. I’ve got two fights left on my contract. I’ll finish the contract off and then probably sign another 10-fight deal. Who knows?”
He added: “If the money’s right sign another 10 fights, but they’ve got to be quick because I’m getting older. And when it’s gone it’s gone. I’m coming up to fight No 40.”
