Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah announced a major change in school schedules across the province. The government has reduced school timings by one hour after students requested the removal of the additional teaching hour.
The decision came during a ceremony marking World Teachers’ Day. Sardar Ali Shah told participants that the Sindh government accepted female students’ request and adjusted the daily school schedule.
According to the education minister, students had shared concerns about longer school hours. They said the extended timing created difficulties, including hunger issues during the day.
In response, the provincial education department decided to reduce school hours by one hour. The new schedule will help students manage their school routine more comfortably.
The minister explained that the government had increased school hours earlier due to academic losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and devastating floods in Sindh.
At the time, officials extended daily teaching hours to complete the syllabus on time and cover the educational gap created during emergencies.
However, students later requested the government to review the decision. They highlighted the challenges they faced because of the longer classroom schedule.
After receiving their request, the Sindh government reviewed the matter and introduced a new schedule. The decision will apply to educational institutions across the province.
Sardar Ali Shah said the government always considers students’ concerns while making education policies. He added that improving the learning environment remains a priority for the provincial administration.
Meanwhile, the education minister also discussed the condition of schools affected by floods in different areas of Sindh. He said rehabilitation work continues in many affected institutions.
He explained that several damaged schools require complete reconstruction. To do so, the province needs additional financial support to restore educational facilities.
The minister requested the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) in Islamabad to provide funds for the early recovery of flood-hit schools.
He said timely financial assistance would help rebuild classrooms and provide better learning opportunities for students. The government wants affected children to continue their education with minimal interruption.
