Meta Launches Muse Gadgets and Home Link to Take Its AI Agent Beyond the Charm

Meta is taking its Muse AI agent beyond the upcoming Muse Charm with a new open-source initiative called Muse Gadgets, which will let developers build their own Muse-powered hardware.

The company is also launching its own example device, the Muse Home Link, which connects the AI agent to smart home products.

What developers can build with Muse Gadgets

Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, said the company is releasing open-source firmware and a Linux SDK that developers can use to bring Muse to different kinds of hardware.

Meta has suggested several possible form factors, including a dedicated E Ink display, an HDMI dongle for TVs, and a small touchscreen accessory similar in size and shape to the Muse Charm. The platform appears designed to support other hardware as well, giving developers and hobbyists flexibility in how they use the AI agent.

Meta has also set up a dedicated Discord community for developers working with Muse Gadgets.

Muse Home Link connects Muse to smart home devices

The Muse Home Link is a small USB-C-powered device that allows Muse to join a home network and communicate with compatible smart home products. According to Friedman, it can connect to TVs, speakers and other devices that expose HTTPS interfaces.

Meta plans to give away 5,000 Muse Home Link units to Muse subscribers, a move aimed at seeding the developer community and getting the device into real homes quickly.

Muse hardware push expands

It remains unclear whether Meta plans to turn Muse Gadgets into a broader hardware platform, but creations from developers and hobbyists could help shape the company’s future hardware work.

Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the Muse Charm last week at Meta Connect, describing it as another way for users to interact with the Muse agent without having to wear Meta’s smart glasses. The Gadgets project now gives developers a second route to bring the same AI agent onto dedicated devices of their own design.

The announcement underlines how aggressively Meta is pushing Muse into physical products. After years of building its AI assistant primarily inside apps and glasses, the company is now betting that an open hardware ecosystem, built by outside developers, will carry the agent into living rooms.
