Twenty-three years have passed, and his village has not forgotten him. On 27 October 2003, Subedar Maj Sajid Islam Butt Shaheed embraced martyrdom in Quetta, in the line of duty. Today, Kala Gujran in Jhelum remembers its valiant son, and Pakistan remembers him.

Subedar Major Sajid Islam Butt Shaheed was a valiant son of Motherland Pakistan, and he sacrificed his life in the line of duty. His burial ceremony was held at his native village, Kala Gujran in Jhelum, where his people laid him to rest with honour. For example, the tribute shared in his honour calls him a valiant son of the motherland, and it prays that Allah elevates his ranks in Jannah. That is a prayer a village does not offer lightly.
Subedar Maj Sajid Islam Butt Shaheed: A Valiant Son of the Motherland
In fact, a soldier’s life is a life of long duties, hard ground, and constant danger. The soldiers stand guard in the mountains and the plains while their families wait at home. Subedar Major Sajid Islam Butt Shaheed lived that life with honour, and he rose to the senior rank of Subedar Major through years of service. His village remembers him for it.
At the same time, his story carries a second sorrow that makes it heavier. He was the maternal uncle of Lieutenant Shaheer Raaz Shaheed of the 137th Long Course. Shaheer Raaz embraced martyrdom in the tragic PIA plane crash incident on 22 May 2020. One family, therefore, gave two martyrs to this country. An uncle fell on duty in Quetta, and a nephew never came home from that flight.

His Sacrifice, Our Future
The soldiers who guard this country stand day and night like a wall before the nation. They take the enemy’s bullet on their own chests so that it never reaches the people behind them. Their sacrifices guarantee the bright future the rest of us walk into every morning.
As a result, every year on 27 October, his shahadat anniversary will return. Tributes will honour a life given in the service of the nation. Above all, remember this: he was brave, he was ours, and his village still speaks his name with pride. Will you keep his memory alive?
