Rawalpindi E-Ticketing at Bus Stands Announced

Rawalpindi e-ticketing will keep a digital record of bus and wagon passengers arriving in and leaving the city, through the Travel Eye app.

The Hotel Eye app will record guests at hotels, guest houses, inns and private rest houses. A police post will be set up inside the General Bus Stand, with special surveillance at bus and wagon stands across the city.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by SSP Operations Malik Tariq Mahboob. The meeting was attended by the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority and representatives of the Counter-Terrorism Department, Special Branch, City Traffic Police and other departments.

What Rawalpindi e-ticketing will do

Under the plan, every passenger travelling to or from Rawalpindi by bus or wagon will be recorded through e-ticketing on the Travel Eye app. Police say the digital record will help them track visitors and catch wanted criminals entering the city by road.

Hotel Eye will work the same way for places to stay. Hotels, guest houses, inns and private rest houses will record their guests on the app, giving police a live picture of who is staying in the city.

The police post inside the General Bus Stand will anchor the new checks. Stands will face special surveillance, and the record of passengers will be kept on the system rather than on paper.

The SSP said the measures will tighten security across the city. No direct quotes from the meeting were published, and the announcement was reported in the SSP’s words through the police account of the meeting.

Security ahead of the Test series

The measures come ahead of the ICC Test Championship series in Rawalpindi, which runs from November 9 to 13. The first Test is Pakistan against Sri Lanka.

Big matches bring large crowds to Rawalpindi, and the police plan treats the bus stands as a key part of the security picture. Thousands of fans travel into the city by bus and wagon for Test matches, and the new record will cover that flow.

The timing is deliberate. With the series days away, the apps and the police post are meant to be in place before the first ball is bowled.

A recommendation put into practice

The move follows an earlier warning about Rawalpindi’s bus stands. FP reported in October 2026 that Pirwadhai General Bus Stand had been declared a security risk after a special inquiry.

The inquiry found about 40,000 passengers a day passing through the stand, with 37 bays, no boundary wall and non-functional CCTV. The inquiry committee recommended fully implementing the Travel Eye system.

This week’s e-ticketing decision puts that recommendation into practice. The same system the inquiry called for will now record passengers at bus and wagon stands, while Hotel Eye extends the record to places where visitors stay.

The link between the two steps is direct: a stand judged unsafe for the volume of people it handles will now have a digital record of who passes through it, and a police post on site.
