Immediate MOU, Open Hormuz: PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the long-awaited agreement between the United States and Iran has entered a new phase after both countries completed electronic signatures on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

The development marks a major diplomatic breakthrough. Moreover, it signals a strong commitment from both sides to reduce tensions and move toward dialogue.

In a statement shared on X, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he felt honored to confirm that the historic Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding had received electronic signatures from the leadership of both countries.

He explained that the presidents of the United States and Iran signed the agreement at the highest level. In addition, he confirmed that he endorsed the document in his role as mediator.

According to the Prime Minister, the Immediate MOU reflects both nations’ determination to resolve differences through diplomacy rather than confrontation.

The announcement quickly attracted international attention. Furthermore, political observers described the agreement as an important step toward regional stability.

Shehbaz Sharif stated that the Immediate MOU would come into force without delay. As part of the first stage of implementation, Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz immediately.

At the same time, the United States will remove its naval blockade. International shipping routes may operate more smoothly in the coming days.

The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz carries significant economic importance. Since a large portion of global oil shipments pass through the waterway, many countries closely monitor developments in the region.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the Immediate MOU creates a framework for confidence-building measures between both countries. He added that practical actions would help strengthen trust and encourage future cooperation.

Meanwhile, Pakistan will continue its diplomatic efforts. The government believes that dialogue remains the most effective path toward lasting peace.

Shehbaz Sharif also announced that Pakistan, with Qatar’s support, will host an official ceremony in Switzerland on June 19, 2026.

The event will celebrate this diplomatic achievement. Additionally, officials will begin technical-level discussions to support the next phase of the agreement.

The Prime Minister expressed optimism about the future. He said the Immediate MOU could promote greater understanding, mutual respect, and shared prosperity throughout the region.

He further noted that successful diplomacy often begins with small but meaningful steps. Therefore, leaders must maintain momentum and continue constructive engagement.

In his statement, Shehbaz Sharif congratulated US President Donald Trump on reaching the agreement. He also praised the leadership of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

According to the Prime Minister, their commitment played a key role in achieving this breakthrough.

Meanwhile, reports from Washington confirmed that President Donald Trump signed the memorandum at an official dinner.

French President Emmanuel Macron attended the event and witnessed the signing process. As a result, the occasion gained additional international significance.

At the same time, Iranian state media released photographs showing President Masoud Pezeshkian signing the agreement.

The images quickly circulated across news platforms and social media channels. Consequently, public interest in the agreement continued to grow.

Analysts believe the Immediate MOU could help reduce uncertainty in the region. They argue that diplomatic engagement creates opportunities for stability and economic cooperation.

Many observers also expect further negotiations in the coming weeks. Therefore, attention now shifts toward the implementation process and upcoming technical discussions.

The Immediate MOU also represents a significant diplomatic milestone for Pakistan. Through its mediation efforts, Pakistan helped bring both sides closer to dialogue and mutual understanding.

As preparations continue for the official ceremony in Switzerland, world leaders and international observers will closely watch the next phase of this historic agreement.
